Hi everyone, I’m Gareth. I work with enterprise data teams on governed self-service analytics, so I spend a lot of time thinking about how business users can get trusted answers without creating more tickets, dashboards or maintenance for the data team.
I’m particularly interested in semantic modelling, data products, governance and how AI changes the interface between data teams and the business.
I joined after seeing Andrew Jones’ post about the upcoming virtual conference. Looking forward to learning from the discussions here and contributing where I can.

Hey Gareth!
Interesting thoughts on getting trusted answers without increasing the workload of just keeping things running. Any quick tips we should be able to get our heads around?

Thanks Frankie. A few things I’ve found useful: define the business meaning once rather than recreating it in every dashboard or prompt, make ownership of those definitions explicit, and make it easy for users to see where an answer came from when something looks wrong.
The test I keep coming back to is whether the next question still creates a ticket for the data team. If it does, you’ve improved access, but probably haven’t achieved self-service yet.
